Reduced guidance good news for planning consultants

The government has announced it is to reduce technical guidance on planning permission issues.

Accepting the recommendations of a review carried out last year, the government is to publish reduced guidance and, at the same time, abolish existing guidance. The government will, though, not take up the suggestion to ‘signpost’ best practice material produced by other bodies.

The announcement is in line with government’s intention to simplify the planning system. Whilst technical guidance can sometimes be useful, having fewer documents to take into account should help those of us involved in planning consultancy.
